Essex Publishing Group has released Edison International: Celebrating 125 Years of Innovation in hardbound and soft-cover versions. The 160-page book tells the story of one of the largest electricity companies in the United States and how it has succeeded through waves of staggering change in a volatile industry.
The book documents the growth of Edison International from the Fourth of July, 1886, when a predecessor utility lit the first streetlamps in Visalia, California, through its expansion and diversification over 100 years to today’s position as a holding company whose electric utility, Southern California Edison, and competitive electricity business, Edison Mission Energy, are leaders in their respective markets. The book provides vivid detail on how the company—unlike many of its counterparts—survived the California electricity crisis of the early 2000s without declaring bankruptcy.
Celebrating 125 Years of Innovation was published largely for an audience of employees, shareholders and other external constituencies with the goals of honoring those who enabled Edison International’s success and of helping people understand the company’s history, strategy, values and position in its industry.
